DEMOCRACY AND THE GENDER BINARY. SKETCHES FOR A DEBATE

Link to the document.

First Conference organised within the framework of the Project and involving all its members. It aimed to set the grounds for academic discussions within the Project and dissemination of the comparative state of the gender binary and the attempts to overcome it that are being developed in legal, social and cultural terms.

Its first part, mostly theoretical in content, was devoted to a critical analysis of the modern sex-gender binary system and the attempts at its deconstruction through trans and non-binary demands. The second part centred on an analysis of the legal recognition of trans and non-binary identities in different legal systems and at a European level.

Initially programmed as an on-site activity, gathering and traveling restrictions determined that it finally would take place online, particularly in view of the Project’s international profile, with participations from Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Ecuador, as well as different parts of Spain.
