Can we see a virus?
Researchers from the Universidad de Sevilla have developed and patented a prototype to remotely detect viruses on surfaces. Using artificial intelligence to analyse images taken at multiple wavelengths, the so-called hyperspectral imaging technique, they were able to successfully distinguish the presence of engineered viral particles. The results of this work, entitled ‘Hyperspectral image processing for the identificationand quantification of lentiviral particles in fluid samples’ has been published in Scientific Reports. More than 30 researchers from 11 different centers participate in C-CLEAN, led by Prof. Emilio Gomez-González, head of the Interdisciplinary Physics Group in which this laboratory integrates. The researchers keep working actively on the analysis of human samples of SARS-CoV-2.
