This is the first post in the Blogosphere of the revamped IMUS Blog. And since the Well-ordering principle tells us that every list has a first element, in the mathematical blogosphere there is also one. That first element is Miguel Ángel Morales, better known as ^DiAmOnD^.
Miguel Ángel Morales is the pioneer (or at least the longest-serving author) of the Spanish mathematical blogosphere. His blog Gaussianos is the benchmark for mathematical popularisation at blog level and has now been running for a whopping 10 years. In this blog, in case you don’t know it yet, you can find high quality articles on all areas of mathematics. From stories related to mathematicians, to proposed problems and mathematical games, through some curious demonstrations, current mathematical news and some humorous accents.
Miguel Ángel’s entries in Gaussianos are very well written and, above all, very well documented. In addition, he does not skimp on links and suggestions to expand a little more on what he writes in his blog.
However, Miguel Ángel’s informative work does not end here. Between April 2010 and March 2013 he was the Editor of the weekly Bulletin of the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society. He is also a regular contributor to the popular science platform Naukas.com, in which he has participated with several articles (electronic and paper) and some interventions in talks. And of course (as can be seen in his own blog), he has given lectures and divulgation talks all over Spain and, in particular, here in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Seville.
But that’s not all. Since this summer, Miguel Ángel has become a blogger for the newspaper El País through a new blog, El Aleph. In this new space, Miguel Ángel continues with the dissemination of interesting mathematical stories at levels accessible to the general public and with the same hints of rigorousness, curiosity and fun that are his trademark.
Thus, Miguel Ángel Morales, ^DiAmOnD^ is, by personal effort, a true polished diamond of mathematical popularisation.
Muchísimas gracias por dedicarme esta entrada, es todo un honor.
Por otra parte, espero muchos éxitos para este blog. Para no perderme ninguna entrada, ya os he añadido a mi Feedly :).
Gracias a ti por abrir el camino.
