Division is learned by instinct (by I. Gabilondo)

Iñaki Gabilondo requires little presentation. And Juan Carlos Ortega doesn’t need much either; it is enough to say that he is an unclassifiable comedian (a tragicomic one, in fact), whose shows are much more than comedy.

For some years now he has been directing and presenting a great show on Cadena SER called Las noches de Ortega. Sometimes, during the summer season, the magazine gives it over to one of its characters: Marco Antonio Aguirre, who usually does a variety of interviews. A couple of summers ago Marco Antonio interviewed Iñaki, and the latter made a lucid reflection on the arithmetical operation of dividing. Gabilondo, recalling that he is the elder brother of nine siblings, stated: “In large families one learns to divide rather than add. A bowl of meatballs comes out, and even if you don’t even know how to say ‘pa’ yet, you know that you get five. It’s sort of an instinct”. And he added:

Division is learned by instinct, then addition and subtraction must be studied at school, but division is learned at the table.
