Faculty Position in Theoretical Nuclear Science (Reaction Theory)

Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking outstanding candidates, with expertise in reaction theory, for an open rank faculty position in theoretical nuclear science at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams. FRIB theory faculty members typically have joint appointments in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, where they teach and supervise graduate students. The applicant is expected to carry out state-of-the-art work in reaction theory relevant to the research at National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) now and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) in the future.

NSCL is a world-leading laboratory for nuclear science and is operated as a national user facility for research with rare isotope beams funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). It is home to forefront experimental and theoretical research programs in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear chemistry and accelerator science with more than 70 Ph.D. students at any time. FRIB is being established as a user facility and is supported by the Department of Energy Office of Science. When completed in 2022 it will vastly expand the range of rare isotope beams available to the research community and offer tremendous potential for scientific discovery. The new faculty member will be centrally involved in this discovery.
