Apply now to attend ESA Academy’s Training Sessions in spring 2022!
ESA’s Education Office, would like to inform you that ESA Academy’s Training and Learning Programme is inviting university students to apply for 4 different training sessions: the Online Space Debris Training Course 2022, the Spacecraft Testing Workshop 2022, the CubeSat Hands-On Training Week 2022 and the CubeSat Summer School 2022. These training sessions will be held in spring and summer 2022.
Please find more information about these opportunities below.
Online Space Debris Training Course 2022
This training course will be held online between 16 and 25 May 2022. It is a collaboration between ESA’s Education Office and ESA’s Space Debris Office, which coordinates ESA’s research activities in all major debris disciplines. University students will be provided with an introduction to the concept of space debris, why it is necessary to address this problem, and how the mitigation policies set by ESA apply to missions. Participants will not only learn about the space debris environment and mitigation technologies and future challenges such as large satellite constellations, but also about how it impacts spacecraft operations and potential future solutions. Current topics such as large satellite constellations and new space traffic management developments will be discussed. Taught by ESA as well as external experts in the sector, the course will be delivered through formal technical lectures complemented by hands-on exercises based on a real-life case study.
Dates: 16 – 25 May 2022
Open to: Master or PhD students studying for a scientific or engineering degree (having minimum knowledge of space technology)
Deadline to apply: 11 April 2022, 23:59 CET
Spacecraft Testing Workshop 2022
This workshop will be held between 25 and 29 April 2022 at the ESA Education Training Centre in ESEC-Galaxia, Belgium. This is a unique opportunity to learn from ESA experts on the preparation and execution of test campaigns for space hardware, with both lectures and hands-on activities. In the ESA Academy’s Training and Learning Facility the University students will receive lectures from ESA experts on different topics related to testing, from product assurance and systems engineering to the most common types of environmental tests applied to spacecraft. To top it off, students will have the unique opportunity to put their newly acquired theoretical knowledge to the….test! Students will prepare and execute a real-life hardware environmental test at the CubeSat Support Facility.
Dates: 25 – 29 April 2022
Open to: Bachelor, Master or PhD students studying an engineering subject or science (no previous testing experience required)
Deadline to apply: 10 March 2022, 23:59 CET
CubeSat Hands-On Training Week 2022
The Training Week will be held from the 30 May to 3 June at the ESA Academy’s Training and Learning Facility in ESEC-Galaxia, Transinne, Belgium. University students will get the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills on spacecraft hardware and software. This Training Week is a great opportunity for university students to get hands-on experience with CubeSats and to apply theoretical knowledge obtained from classroom lectures. Students will have the opportunity to perform experiments on educational satellites (ESAT) and learn how subsystems work and interact with each other. They will also discover how to conduct Assembly, Integration and Verification (AIV), and how to handle tests using real hardware. The aim of the training week is to help students that have innovative ideas for educational CubeSat missions, or are working on CubeSat projects at a conceptual or preliminary stage. As an outcome, students will be able to inject the new knowledge gained from the training week into the early design phase of their CubeSat projects.
Dates: 30 May – 03 June 2022
Open to: Bachelor, Master or PhD students studying an Engineering or Scientific subject (with good knowledge in space technology).
Deadline to apply: 28 March 2022, 23:59 CET
REMINDER! CubeSat Summer School 2022!
ESA’s Education Office is developing an innovative new multi-week training opportunity: the CubeSat Summer School 2022 .This Summer School is designed for university students with engineering and physics backgrounds who are highly motivated to participate in a CubeSat project or pursue a career in the space sector, but currently lack knowledge or experience within this area.
The Summer School will run for four weeks from 8 August to 2 September 2022 at ESEC-Galaxia (Transinne, Belgium).
More information is available in the CubeSat Summer School description.
Dates: 8 August – 2 September 2022
Open to: Bachelor, Master or PhD students studying an engineering subject or physics (with basic knowledge in space technology)
Deadline to apply: 21 March 2022, 23:59 CET
