RESEARCH INITIATION FELLOWSHIPS 2022
IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials. DESCRIPTION
Data-driven nanoporous materials discovery.
‘Big data’ and machine learning methodologies have offered a possibility to search the enormous space of porous material structures to identify ones with outstanding properties in applications such as catalysis, sensing, separations and gas storage. The key component on these techniques are structure representations, e.g. feature vectors, that summarize structures’ characteristics relevant to the properties of interest. Generation of such feature vectors have to be encoded in applied math algorithms, which often involve computational geometry and topology, and/or by using statistical machine learning themselves. This fellowship will offer an opportunity to work on the development and applications of new feature engineering algorithms and tools for nanoporous materials.
Knowledge of a programming language (C, C++, Python) is required.
REQUIREMENTS
To be an undergraduate university student in their last year or MSc student in any scientific discipline (physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, etc.) or engineering.
To hold a valid Spanish residence permit.
STAGES OF THE SELECTION PROCESS
Deadline for submissions: 03/04/2022.
First Stage. The applicants will submit their registration together with their CV, academic records and Spanish Id (either DNI or NIE) by 03/04/2022 and will receive an automatic confirmation of reception.
Second Stage. A selection committee will assess applicants according to the following criteria:
A shortlist of candidates will be interviewed by the selection panel. A candidate will be selected among them considering the academic record, command of English, motivation, and alignment of qualifications with the research topic.
Third Stage. The selected fellows will be informed and will receive an official confirmation. Acceptance of the fellowship is required within one week.
CONDITIONS
- A gross stipend of 800 € per month.
- The fellowships will have a maximum duration of 3 months.
- The fellowships are awarded for full-time training.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The working language of the Institute is English. Full command of the English language is required in all positions.
IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to equal opportunities, diversity and the promotion of a healthy work environment and work-life balance. Female applicants are encouraged to apply to our research and technical positions.
Applications are processed upon reception. Once the minimum publication days have passed, the position might be closed, so we encourage early application.
Besides on-the-job technical training, IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to training the Institute’s scientists and staff in “soft” or transversal skills. See the available training here.
