El nuevo Reglamento (UE)2016/679 del parlamento Europeo y del Consejo, relativo a la protección de las personas físicas en lo que respecta al tratamiento de datos personales y a la libre circulación de estos datos (RGPD)  entró en vigor en mayo de 2016 . El artículo 37.1.a) de la citada normativa establece que cuando el tratamiento de datos personales sea llevado a cabo por una autoridad u organismo público, como es el caso de la Universidad de Sevilla, el responsable del tratamiento deberá designar un Delegado de Protección de Datos.

Equality

The main goal of the Equality committee is to encourage the gender equality in mathematical research and to promote the visibility of women in all academic levels. In particular, the Equality committee works in the following aspects:

    • Ensure that the entity complies with the principle of equal treatment and opportunities by gender and culture.
    • The promotion of balanced representation of both genders in all organs and positions of responsibility in the iMat unit.
    • Support all committees of the unit in fomenting that a gender equality perspective is maintained in their activities (seminars, workshops, outreach activities…).
    • Promoting the visibility of the scientific women in the University sector and also in the college level to encourage the mathematical vocation in girls.
    • To join local and external gender equality initiatives.

About iMAT

The general objective of the strategic research programme of the iMAT Unit is to investigate on top-quality mathematical technology, understood as the result of the creative and pragmatic application of mathematics as technology.

 Mathematical technology unites sectors and creates valuable innovation. Algorithmic speed-ups developed by the mathematical sciences clearly outperform hardware speed-ups over the past 40 years. Relying solely on performance improvements in hardware wouldallow now to do the simulations of the 1990s. Mathematical technology is needed besides software and hardware for the advancement of science and technology.

 Our objectives are based upon the historical role of the real-world problems as a driving force of research in mathematics, and the present technological capacity to transform mathematical solutions into improvements for human life and for the environment, in short terms.

 The conclusions of the report on the economic impact of mathematics in Spain show the capability of mathematics to sustainably improve production processes and create qualified employment. The report also shows that 10% of national gross income and 6% of employment in Spain in 2016 were due to the intensive use of mathematics in productive

 The aim of the iMAT also is to transfer its mathematical technology knowledge to improve human life and environment, providing a world-target service. The research organization and activities of iMAT have been designed to the achievement of this general objective.

Mission

The knowledge transfer activity of iMAT is managed through our Knowledge Transfer and Technology Transfer services, respectively led by J. Macías and R. Blanquero. Their strategy is twofold: consolidating the existing collaboration with scientific organisations and companies through short answer delays to their requests and top-quality R&D outputs, as well as finding new collaborations.  

At international level, we participate in the European Mathematics-Industry network through our participation in the Spanish Math-In network, of whose Steering Committee R. Blanquero and J. Macías are members.

At national level, we participate in the Spanish Technological Platforms PET MSO-ED and PLANETIC, through several of our research groups. We also have coordinated the study on the socio-economic impact of mathematics in Spain. Its conclusions show the capability of mathematics to sustainably improve production processes and create qualified employment. Also, that 10% of national gross income and 6% of employment in Spain in 2016 were due to the use of mathematics in productive sectors. At present we lead a similar study for Andalusia Region, funded by the  Strengthening Program of Junta de Andalucía.

At regional level, we lead the structuring and implementation of the mathematical technology transfer service in the ongoing IAMAT (Andalusian Institute of Mathematics), in collaboration with the Andalusia Technology Corporation. This action is participated by 25 TT groups (6 led by iMAT) of 6 Andalusian universities. We also have obtained funding for this activity from the regional Strengthening Program.

At local level, we carry on a number of research projects in collaboration with companies in several sectors and TT training activities «To science» and «To industry«.

Training

iMAT’s training and recruiting strategy is aimed at providing excellent training instruments to pre and post-doc students in mathematical technology research, integrating the industrial applications and employment aspects. It is a combination of four key levers:

– Master and PhD programs of excellence.

– International Doc-courses program with full funding.

– Promoting employability in industrial activities.

– Extensive participation in hiring funding opportunities.
