RL6. The Mathematics of Data Science

Group Leader: Emilio Carrizosa Priego

Description:

RL6 analyses mathematical models and develop algorithms to address timely problems in Machine Learning and Data Analysis. Our aim is to exploit our deep expertise to generate tools with strong mathematical foundations for problems in supervised and unsupervised classification, regression, feature selection and visualization. The challenge is to obtain, via mathematical models and algorithms, an explainable output from a complex input, which may be large in dimension and with a difficult mathematical structure behind, including e.g. functional, uncertain, qualitative, noisy data, data in nonmetric spaces, etc.
Our work deals with strategies to address uncertainty in traditional optimization problems, cost-sensitive analysis classification, based on global optimization (either continuous or mixed integer linear optimization), and methods for network design problems based on data science techniques.
