María Cumplido: A braid group woman

María Cumplido has a Postdoctoral researcher at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Seville (Spain). She is a group theorist studying braid groups, Artin groups and mapping class groups via Garside structures, combinatorial methods and geometric group theory.
From September 2020 to January 2021, she was an Associate Professor (Profesora Ayudante Doctora) at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 2019/2020, she was a Research Assistant at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, supervised by Alexandre Martin, thanks to a contract funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). In 2018/2019, she worked at University of Burgundy in Dijon with a postdoc contract, under the tutelage of Luis Paris.
She did her Ph.D. in Mathematics in University of Rennes 1 and University of Seville, under the supervision of Bert Wiest and Juan González-Meneses, and financed by a PhD contract of the University of Rennes 1 (UR1 President Scholarship).
She was awarded with the second prize for the best doctoral thesis of the University of Rennes in Mathematics, Sciences and Technology of Information and Communication, granted by Fondation Rennes 1.
In 2020, she received the Vicent Caselles mathematical research award, granted by the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society and the BBVA Foundation.
