Summary of the proposal
The BASIC project will work together with coastal communities in Cartagena Bay to identify their hopes and expectations when it comes to improving drinking water. After technical and financial analyses, the projects prepared by the community itself are consolidated in a proposal in order to obtain funding for future implementation. The project will provide technical support to the community and train young leaders to improve health conditions and develop equity, giving them the technical capacity to negotiate with local government bodies ongoing initiatives to improve the drinking water supply. In addition, a water quality monitoring programme for the bay will be implemented, one that is capable of forecasting hydrodynamic conditions and possible polluting elements in the bay.
Project goal
Provide training to the coastal community and scientific orientation for the new Cartagena Bay Environmental Committee Authority in Colombia.
