Carlos G Dávila, PhD
Senior Aerospace Researcher
NASA Langley Research CenterHampton, VA
Seminario: Good Engineering in Aeronautics and Space
This seminar promises a profound exploration into the heart of engineering excellence that draws on Dr. Dávila's extensive research and first-hand experience of accident investigations. In three carefully structured sessions, Dr. Dávila will explore historical failures of both metallic and composite structures, contrasting high-profile aerospace disasters with the triumphs of engineering marvels such as the Douglas DC-3 and the lessons learned from the Challenger and Columbia accidents. Through these narratives, participants will be guided to understand the Seven Axioms of Good Engineering, the importance of learning from failure through root cause and fault tree analysis, and the role of cognitive bias on engineering errors. This seminar reflects Dr. Dávila's significant contributions to aerospace engineering, but it also underlines the indispensable value of robust engineering practices in the design and analysis of aerospace structures.
