Comentary
The lines do not fit any length-based scheme, although they might be stressed dactylics (cf. Carande). There are other reasons, apart from metrical, to suggest it is a carmen (uid. Martín Camacho CLEB ES, 126-128): l. 2 the term antistes in almost all cases indicates a carmen epigraphicum; other features agree with texts usually found in carmina dedicated to bishops, cf. l. 2 hon[—] and l. 4 meritis, cf. CLE 1561,11-12; CLE 1516,2-3; CLE 1377,5-6; CLE 1362,8 and 11; etc. It could be a metrical epitaph to a bishop. There are no parallels in Christian texts (epigraphical or otherwise) for the sequence uoluentes colom[—] (?).
