Comentary

All that can be said is that, of what has been conserved, l. 1 may be in prose since, as we read it, it contains the age of the deceased and ll. 2-3 contain the preserved verse part. Bücheler, through the proposed supplements, stated that it might be an epigraphical poem. It is now impossible to prove this. There may have been a praescriptum in prose with the age of the deceased, perhaps a woman, if we entertain the possibility that quarepresented a feminine relative pronoun (although it could also refer to vita). If it was verse, that part might have begun in l. 2, but it should be stated that there does not appear to be any graphic distinction, in what is left of the inscription, between what might have been prose and verse. In addition, a word like vita frequently occurs in the corpus of the CLE and therefore it contributes nothing per se to the hypothesis that this is a CLE; nor, of course, does it contradict it. Exactly the same occurs in the case of superos + uni[- – -], aggravated by the fact that this inscription is in fact the only example in the concordances of this iunctura. It is doubtful that this fragment is metrical.
