General Description and Skills

General description

The Physical Sciences and Technologies Doctoral Programme (PS&T) is a programme regulated by RD99/2011 with a multidisciplinary approach to postgraduate studies adapted to the nature of current scientific-technical developments. In fact, science and technical advances have gone hand in hand since time immemorial, allowing us as a species to firstly understand the basic principles of natural phenomena and subsequently control and modify our surroundings in accordance with our interests.

The PS&T Programme includes teaching staff working in different areas at the University of Seville (Electronics, Electromagnetism, Nuclear, Theoretical and Applied Physics) along with researchers of the Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas [CSIC]) associated with the Microelectronics Institute of Seville, which is attached to the National Microelectronics Centre (Centro Nacional de Microelectrónica).

The inclusive nature of the programme is also reflected by the wide range of research topics addressed by the participating lecturers, as can be seen from the different research groups they form part of.

The PS&T Doctoral Programme aims to train students as researchers and professionals in these different fields according to the general principles of respect for fundamental rights, gender equality, promotion of human rights, accessibility, equal opportunities and non-discrimination. The ultimate aim for students in the research period of the Doctoral Programme is to complete their Doctoral Thesis. The role of the thesis supervisors is to foster students’ research skills, providing them with guidance, stimulating scientific cooperation with members of other research groups working in similar areas, organising stays with other centres carrying out research work relevant to the Doctoral Thesis, facilitating attendance at specialist scientific-technical conferences and supervising the drafting of articles in top-level international journals. The doctoral programme ultimately aims to provide students with a modern, up-to-date and useful outlook on science and technology, thereby guaranteeing their successful incorporation in the labour market and ensuring they achieve high levels of scientific-technical competence in teaching or research roles for both the public and private sector.
